Char Chinari, Dal Lake Kashmir

In the paradise, Kingfishers grieve

for drying Dal and dying Chinars.

On a Shikara, a mother wails for her long-lost son.

Like frail old men, the Zabarwans await death

A rabid recruit fires the gun to kill time.

(Char Chinari island, Dal Lake on my mind. Also called the Roph Lank (silver island) for the light-reflecting silvery waves seen from the island while looking towards Shalimar Bagh).  The picture was taken at Char Chinari almost a decade back. All four original Chinar trees have perished. New trees are being transplanted.
