(ये फूल हमारे पेड़ के ही हैं ) #Harsingar#flowers#motherlove#folktales
If Mother was around, she would have surely recounted the tale of the Harsingar—or Parijat—once again, just as she used to after gathering the flowers early in the morning. Have you heard it? It is something like: Princess Parijat fell in love with the Sun. Whenever the Sun set out on his journey across the sky, the Princess would follow him, much like a devoted lover. Yet, she could not endure the Sun’s intense, scorching heat. Ultimately, separated from her beloved and with her heart broken by love, she perished under the Sun’s searing rays. Moved by her love and sacrifice, the angels transformed her ashes into the Parijat tree. Because of the tree’s profound sorrow—and its inability to gaze upon the Sun’s radiant face—its white blossoms bloom only in the darkness of the night, spreading an intoxicating fragrance. Before the dawn can break and the Sun might catch sight of them, the flowers fall silently to the earth, much like tears. It is this nocturnal blooming that earned the tree its botanical name, Nyctanthes arbor-tristis—literally, the “sad tree.”
